For many years, “Made in China” has been unfairly reduced to one word: cheap.
Cheap fabrics. Cheap labour. Cheap quality.
But as founders who have spent years working directly with China — walking factory floors, touching fabrics, sitting across tables from makers — we can confidently say this belief couldn’t be further from the truth.
China isn’t one factory.
It isn’t one standard.
And it certainly isn’t one level of quality.
China is home to billions of people and millions of factories, each operating at completely different levels. Just like anywhere else in the world, quality ranges from low to exceptional — from mass-produced to luxury, from rushed to meticulously crafted.
The difference has never been where something is made.
The difference is how and why it’s made.
What People Don’t See
What most people don’t see is that China is one of the most advanced manufacturing and textile innovation hubs in the world. Some of the world’s most incredible fabrics — the ones that drape beautifully, last longer, feel better on the body — are developed there.
This is why so many global luxury and premium brands quietly manufacture in China.
Innovation lives where investment, skill, and technology meet — and China leads in all three.
Why We Go Back, Year After Year

For us, manufacturing has never been something we outsource and forget.
We fly to China every year. We show up. We walk the floors. We inspect garments mid-production. We source new fabrics. We talk through construction details that most people would never notice — but feel when they put a piece on.
Because quality doesn’t come from emails and spreadsheets alone.
It comes from presence, relationships, and accountability.
“Anyone can say they care about quality. Showing up year after year — that’s how you prove it.”
— Founders, Twosisters the Label
Why We Choose Small, Family-Owned Factories

China has massive factories capable of producing hundreds of thousands of units. And while those places have their role, they’re not right for us.
We intentionally work with small, family-owned factories — businesses built on skill, pride, and generations of craftsmanship. These are places where workmanship still matters, where details aren’t rushed, and where people genuinely care about the end result.
We love supporting these factories because, in many ways, they are just like us.
Small. Independent. Passion-driven.
Built slowly, carefully, and with heart.
“We’re a small business, and we choose to work with small businesses. It matters to us who makes our clothes — not just how many.”
— Founders, Twosisters the Label
Cheap Is a Decision, Not a Destination
Low quality doesn’t come from a country.
It comes from cutting corners.
It comes from cheaper fabrics, rushed timelines, and no one taking responsibility for the final product. Those decisions can happen anywhere in the world.
High quality comes from patience.
From skilled hands.
From mutual respect between brand and maker.
That’s the path we choose — every season, every collection.
What “Made in China” Means to Us
To us, “Made in China” means:
-
World-leading fabric innovation
-
Skilled craftsmanship refined over decades
-
Long-term relationships built on trust
-
Being hands-on, not hands-off
It means intention over shortcuts.
Care over convenience.
So when you see “Made in China” on one of our labels, we hope you don’t see a stereotype — but a story. A story of people, pride, and thoughtful choices made far beyond what’s visible on the surface.
And it’s a story we’re incredibly proud to stand behind.
Much love:
Ruby and Pauline
